To our community, we're a group of students who build cool robots. To our fellow schools, we're the kids with the unique snail mascot. To our mentors, parents, and teachers, we're the ones that work late into the night and on weekends. When asked why we put so much time and effort into robotics, our answer is simple: FIRST is more than robots and competitions. It's about learning valuable life skills and connecting with others. It’s about discovering a passion for STEAM and evangelizing its importance. And more than building a robot, it's about building a family and a team of leaders who want to make a difference.
Mercer Island Robotics creates an environment that invites students to share their ideas and use personal connections to make an impact. Whether the idea is about our robot, our team, or potential outreach endeavors; we make sure that every student’s voice can be heard and considered.
In alignment with FIRST's mission, we strive to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders. The mission of FIRST is to provide life-changing robotics programs that give young people the skills, confidence, and resilience to build a better world.
Robotics team members are young leaders and engineers learning real-world professional skills as we collaborate with each other, other teams, staff members, volunteers, and community members. Robotics transcends engineering, asking students to intentionally improve our citizenship. We learn to work toward a common goal as a team of peers in a safe place.
